Where it pinches...
(PS: This is a typical Nigerian campus story so it would contain lots of slangs and half baked variations of English Language... )
He walked steadily towards me while giving me that look and i sighed quietly, rolling my eyes inwardly. I just knew how the night would end: Him reaching heaven in five minutes and coming back down in much lesser time. Despite how much i hated it all, i let him have his way as usual. Few minutes later, I looked at him with his eyes closed above me, wondering what must have made me like him. It definitely wasn’t money; I was a lot richer than him… Maybe it was because he was funny? Definitely not. So what the hell was it? As I questioned myself, I watched beads of sweat form above his brows; all I could wish was for was him to finish on time as today was just too special for me to stop him halfway. Suddenly he let
out that all too familiar groan, and i sighed in relief knowing he was done. I tapped his shoulder. "Acho getup, I have to clean myself, hope your bathroom is clean and has water?" "Yes baby." I rolled my eyes at the endearment while getting off the bed.
Moments later, he made himself a cup of milo as I strolled out of the bathroom. "So how was your trip to Owerri?" I asked while drying my hair. "It was okay. My friends sent their regards. So,where will we go tonight?" "Nowhere, I will be going home soon." "Comeon baby, its Friday, lets go have fun, and maybe eat some of those spiced fish you love."
"I heard about you and Yewande. So you both have been cruising all over."
I headed to his kitchen to see if I could eat something. Immediately,
he joined me in the kitchen, completely in rage.
"I can't believe you've been listening to all those useless gossip spread by people that want to tear us apart. Wicked and jobless people!" I smiled knowingly, joining him in ranting, "Heartless people!" He smiled at my statement.
"Baby you know its only you right? You know I'll never hurt you... "
His arms were around me in a second and he was about to get started when i quietly pulled out of his arms.
"Really? You're so adorable... "
"So will you go out with me tonight?"
"How did you happen to be at Owerri and Enugu together?"
"I don't understand you." "My uncle owns an hotel in Enugu and my cousin is the manager. He saw you come in on Wednesday. He still recognizes you from my birthday party."
"He must be mistaken, I wasn’t at Owerri. He can't be too sure, many people look like me." I smiled and nodded. Men really suck. "I see... Anyway, being so sure that you would deny it, he snapped you from a distance, while you were beside the pool with a lady." I brought out my phone and showed him the pictures.
"That is your favorite shorts yeah? I don't even understand why you like it."
Acho was speechless for awhile, he wanted to talk but words seemed to fail him. I laughed shaking my head.
"Don’t worry we are cool." "I am so sorry, I love you so much. She was all over me and I…" "Don’t worry, I understand. Sometimes I can be a difficult girlfriend." "Tee, we can get through this… I swear it was a one time thing..." I continued looking at the picture with a dazzling smile on my face. "Is that Yewande? She really has nice boobs oh... Hope you didn’t tweak her nipples too much like you do mine? I tell you that really hurts..." "Babe stop please, you are really scaring me." "Relax Acho... " "If you knew since Wednesday, why are you just telling me now? Why allow me make love to you?" "Firstly, that wasn’t lovemaking, it was just you doing your usual five minutes acrobatic dance. Secondly, I'll rather breakup with you when I see you than on phone." "Babe please… What will I be without you?"
I laughed. I looked around, realizing in dismay that there was nothing edible in his kitchen.
"Now that we have confirmed that you didn’t use the #20,000 I gave you in Owerri, can I have it back? Except you used it for Enugu then I understand." Acho sat down on his mattress looking defeated.
"See me off to the bus-stop, its time for me to bounce!"
"Baby, is it really over? I mean just like that?" "Yes dear..."
*. *. *. *. *. *
I wasn’t sad about the break-up, being single was something I felt was right for me at this time. Moreover, the student union government elections were around the corner.
Abayomi my second bestie wanted to be the President and had approached me to be his vice. I didn't really like his policies nor was I crazy about being elected. I just saw it as an opportunity to do something different, another icing in the cake I guess. What made it all the more sweet was the fact that no igbo girl had been the vice-president of the school. I liked breaking bounds. Checking my phone as I got home, I saw 22 missed calls from Acho,1 from my dad, and some whatsapp messages. I called my dad.
I went into the kitchen moments later, reminiscing on my father's obvious disappointment on learning that Acho and I had parted ways. He still considered him to be a good boy. I hissed, indeed... I made myself a creamy lunch and was devouring my cereal when my phone rang. It was Abayomi. He informed me that we were to meet some people for fundraising in the evening and i had to be there. I sighed in disappointment because I really hadn't planned on going out tonight. I made up my mind to hold him up for awhile; I really needed to gist. "Where is it going to hold?" "Babis... " "OK, I'll be there boss." "You can bring your boyfriend." "You mean Yewande’s boyfriend? I guess he'll be..." "I don’t understand." "He was bleeping her at my back..." "Na wa for that guy ooo! People can be stupid sha. How can he cheat on somebody like you. If you had agreed to date me when we were in 100level, all this rubbish…" "How is Toun my friend? I am sure you would never cheat on her..." "Never... now that you are single…" "How is Kofo?"
"Why are you asking me about Kofo?" "Its because I know you have been bleeping her behind your girlfriend."
"Chai, who told you this one?" "I have my sources."
"Kofo and I are just close friends. The fact that your boyfriend cheated doesn't mean I'm doing same to my girlfriend. Besides, you know she helps with our campaign?" "Oh really? By bleeping everybody that counts to vote for us?" I just couldn't help laughing out loud. "You know I hate you abi?" "Yeah, I know Abayomi but you know its only me that tells you the truth.Toun is my friend and, if you don’t call it quits with Kofo aka universal charger, Iwill tell Toun." "You are mean, mean as hell!" "I know sugar, that’s why I am your padi-padi." "Carry your wahala dey go… See you tonight. Don’t be late oh..." "Alright boo... " "Yeye girl... "He hissed jokingly and then hung up. I smiled; at least I had passed my message across and also received his. Abayomi was my bestfriend; Icould do almost anything for him. We almost dated while in 100 level, but he was too serious with school and politics. I liked him because ultimately he was a good guy at heart, had a great G.P (one that could make your parents disown you and adopt him ). To top it all up, he was also kind. I was surprised when he had insisted I be his vice for the elections. I didn't think I had the prerequisites.
I was igbo, didn't have many friends, was relatively young at 21, and I hadn't ever showed interest in politics. However, he had insisted that I would help him swing all the non-Yoruba votes to our camp, because most of them wanted a voice at the SUG (Student union government). He also said I was the only one he could trust. Our opponent was a radical figure, his nick-name was National. He had been on of the very active class-reps in his
department since I could remember. He was liked by lecturers and was a good orator. I doubted our chances of defeating him but I had to standby Abayomi.
It was 9:30pm when I woke up from my sleep immediately, I remembered that I had to be at babis for the fundraiser. The election was to hold in six weeks, though we had campaign posters all over the campuses (mini and main); National was having the upperhand. He had more financial power than Abayomi as he (Abayomi) came from what I would describe as an average family. His dad was a retired banker while his mum was a civil servant. My dad ran eight big stores in Alaba international market. He dealt
with the importation of Samsung and sharp electronics.
My dad didn’t go to secondary school talk more of a university. He came to Lagos immediately after the Biafran war, worked as a salesboy for Late Mr Koledowo of blessed memory at Idumota.Idumota was one of the biggest markets in the 70’s.Things went smoothly for awhile until Mr koledowo’s
wife died. He never really recovered from the shock. He died November 17th 1979, leaving his store to my dad.Shortly after his demise, his family came to close the store leaving my dad with nothing. My dad had made some friends with some Ghanaians who were regular customers.Mr Bansah allowed my dad to stay with his family provided my dad worked for them for free. As providence would have it, in 1983 the Ghanaians were evicted from Nigeria. Though the government of Nigeria said it was due to economic hardships, my dad always maintained that it was a form of retaliation. In1969, Nigerians had been evicted from Ghana. Once again, my dad inherited another man’s store.Fast forward to 2015, my 47 year old dad, Chief Dike was a millionaire; my mum was an housewife.
I had supported the elections financially evenmore than Abayomi, but it still wasn't enough. A lot of freshers adorned tee-shirts with National’s beaming smile on them. Even some girls in my compound had theirs. Just remembering it drives home their disloyalty!
I wouldn't have been able to gett to Babis on time if i had boarded a taxi, I decided to meet John, my neighbor who had a car and could easily drop me off.
"John...!" Noreply… I knocked on his door but he didn't open. I was forced to peep through the window because I could hear music from his one room apartment. Lying in bed was John, with his Unclad girlfriend sprawled like an eagle beside him.Cans of sprite and a bottle of Johnny walker were nearby. I walked to Itamerin bus-stop to get a bike to Babis.
It was crowded when I got in, it was filled with most of the club guys and girls unwinding from the week long lectures I skimmed the crowed until I saw Abayomi seated with some people just by the bar. I was squeezing myself for a way through the crowd when a hand pulled me back.
Turning, I saw the slim body and apologetic smile of Acho."I thought you said you were staying indoors tonight." "Its really none of your business."
"I see you have already forgotten about me." I rolled my eyes, desperately stopping myself from being rude. "You are kind and smart. Now let go of my hand some people are waiting for me. Acho let go immediately. ‘WO' by olamide was booming in the back-ground as a couple of students flooded the park that stood as the dance floor. "I will miss you." "I bet you will honey."
I continued walking to the area where Abayomi sat. He didn’t see me as he continued arguing fervently with someone. I didn’t recognize the person nor the other people sitting around the table. It wasn’t long before Abayomi saw me and screamed.
"You can be very annoying! We have been here since 9pm, look at the time you are coming." "Ab, is that how to talk to a lady, your mum did a rotten job raising you." "Your papa left yansh!" "Ishiewu... " We laughed out loud. He opened his arms for an embrace. "Come and hug me joor." I jokingly squeezed my nose with my hands. "Body odour oh…"
I quickly scrutinized the people sitting around the table. Dada was at the right hand side of Abayomi, Kofo sat at his left with her fake lashes almost covering her eyes. Uche was holding a bottle of Gulder while Qudus sat at the corner. Seeing Uche there left me with an uneasy feeling, he was one of the boys that was feared in mini-campus where most of the social science students received their lectures. Those were the people I recognized, the others were unknown, and maybe they were from the main-campus. "Sorry I am late guys." I couldn't help rendering an apology for my late coming.
Most people responded by saying; "don’t worry…" "its alright…" "No problem…" except Uche. He just smiled that wicked, no... evil smile.
Feel my pain
CHAPTER ONE
"James!!!" Ashley stormed into a beautiful looking house. The house was dark so she turned on the light. Seeing no one, she angrily moved forward. "James Remi Martins!!!" The reply she got to her call was blunt silence. This infuriated her the more and she sank into a chair still seething. Just then, her phone rang. She brought it out and checked the caller, angrily dumping the phone when she saw it was James. She finally picked up the call after it had rung three more times.
"How could you do this to..." "Baby please come outside now its very important. We can talk about that later, ive gotta go." He hung up and she was really shocked. "Did he just hang up on me?" Still very angry, she picked up her bag and went outside. She walked up to him glaring intensely. "How could you dump me on the road like that? What if something happened to me?" He remained silent and just kept staring at her. This infuriated her the more and she raised her hand to hit him. He closed his eyes in reflex, anticipating being hit. The slap didnt come and then he opened his eyes only to see her still glaring at him with her hands on her hips. She made to walk out and then he pulled her back and kissed her intensely. He pulled away leaving a ring in her mouth. She stared at him in shock as he went on one knee.
"Baby please do me the honour of becoming my wife." She was silent still staring at him. "Say yes please and make me the happiest man alive." She grinned and then pulled him up. "You know ill marry you, big head." They both laughed as he sliped the ring on her finger. They hugged each other.
******************************
ONE YEAR LATER (NINE MONTHS INTO THEIR MARRIAGE)...
Ashley's sitting on the couch filing her nails and still watching T.v. James walks in with a small suit case in hand. "Baby I'm home!" She ignored him and continued filing her nails with additional interest. He dropped his suitcase and stared at her in surprise. "I just returned from a very long trip, pratically another continent and I dont get a warm welcome from my woman?" She dropped her nail file and glared at him. "Did you tell me before you left? Did you..." "I told Stanley to tell you..." "Just hear yourself. You told Stanley to tell your wife that you'll be gone on a two months trip. If I did that would you welcome me warmly? How many times did you call me throughout your trip?" "Baby, c'mon I just returned. The least you could do is welcome me and then interrogate me later..." "Unfortunately I can't do that. You knew I wasn't a pretender before you married me. In fact..." She bent down and picked up her stuff. "I dont have time for this." And then she walked out. He sat on couch sighing deeply. He got up, took his bag into the room and set out to find his wife. He found her on the verandah still filing her nails and then sat beside her. He sighed again. "On the day I travelled, I wasn't informed earlier. I just got to the office and found a plane ticket to Paris lying on my table. I confronted my boss and he apologized explaining fully why I was chosen and not given prior notice. I had just 20 minutes before the flight departed and I tried calling you but your phone was switched off."
"Why didn't you call throughout the trip?" "I left my phone on the plane in my haste to meet the meeting. I got a new phone though but I had no one's contact..." "Including me? You mean you don't know my number by heart?" He sighed again. "Please don't sound so disappointed. Ok I promise to learn your number by heart today." She still looked pissed and disappointed and he had began to run out of lines. "See baby, let's leave the whole story. I'm really very sorry and it'll never happen again." She stopped filing her nails and turned to him. He spoke before she could. "Can I get my welcome hug and kiss now? Plus, having some food right now would really be nice." She smiled shaking her head. So typical of him to believe she's forgiven him without waiting for her to officially accept his apology. "I can't remember accepting your apology or letting you off the hook." "I didn't leave you with much choice plus, your smile is answer enough. She laughs and stands up pulling him up. "Your food is ready but, no hug or kisses till you shower, eat and rest." He grumbled while she dragged him inside the house.
************************************
It was so shocking to come back home and find a woman sprawled on her couch. Ashley stared at the woman, surprised. She moved closer and noticed she was sleeping. She nudged her awake. "Who the hell are you and how did you get into my house?" She stared at Ashley then rubbed her eyes and stretched like dozing off in someone else's house is the most natural thing ever. I'm Angela. Jamie gave me the keys and asked me to make myself at home. The mother of his babies can't be stressed..." "Excuse me?" "You're excused..." Shocked, she stared at the woman. She shook her head. Who the hell was this woman that was calling her husband "Jamie?" This imposter was most definitely wrong; her James would never do that. "Get out of my house now before I kill you..." The lady burst into spams of hysterical laughter. "You go fear na..." Immediately, Ashley lost her cool and stormed into her room and came out with the revolver her father left her after his death. Immediately, she cocked the gun and pointed it at the imposter's head and then slowly moved it to her stomach. Immediately; Angela shrieked raising her hands up in surrender and began to retreat. Unfortunately, Ashley wasn't about to let her off the hook. "KNEEL DOWN! Raise your hands up and close your eyes fast!" She immediately complied and Ashley cuffed her while still pointing the gun at the back of her head this time. Afterwards, she took a glass of juice, sat down and began sipping quietly while still pointing the gun at her. Just then, James walked in and was taken aback by the sight before him; his wife armed and sipping juice and Angela on her knees with her arms raised up. Wow! He almost laughed out loud but, one look at his wife's face made him think better of it. What the hell was Angela doing in his house anyway...? "James. There's a matter you need to attend to." Just then, she recorked her gun but didnt point it at anybody. "Who is she?" Before James could reply, Angela wanted to beat him to it; "I told you earlier that..." Extremely furious, Ashley jumped to her feet releasing a stray bullet. "Shut the fuck up else I'll blow your brains out." "Baby you need to calm down. Seriously you dont need..." She whirled facing James, and pointed the gun at him. "Dont you dare speak till I ask you to. I'll tell you what I need... Answer the fucking question!" "Ok... Fine! She's my ex." Ashley sat back down and continued sipping her Juice. "Stand beside her." James hesitated and she pointed the gun at him menancingly. Immediately he raised his hands and moved. "She said she's the mother of your babies. Is it true?" "Hell no! She's bloody crazy." He was obviously furious as he turned to Angela. "What do you want in my house?" "Honey, why are you using that tone on me? You gave me your home keys to..." He turned to his wife "Baby I swear she's a fucking liar. She's been on my case since we returned from our honey moon. She just doesn't want to leave me alone..." "Really...?" Angela replied instantly obviously very pissed while Ashley watched on still sipping her juice and holding her gun. Angela made to stand up and Ashley pointed the gun at her aiming at her stomach. "Please let me prove to you that your husband is the liar. I have the test results to prove that I'm pregnant and a video of us banging to prove that he is responsible..." James moved menancingly towards Angela and held her neck. 'I'll fucking kill you for concorting such lies..." Ashley released another stray bullet, making James release her. Angela began coughing intensely. "Show me the video and the results..." "Baby, you dont need to see..." "I said shut up! Don't let me say it again." She handed over a key to James. "Uncuff her." He did it quietly trying so hard not to strangle Angela. James had began to sweat as Angela handed the items to his wife. He knew Angela intended to destroy his marriage since she refused to get over their break up. He got more frantic as his wife watched the video, looking expressionless. He was shocked when she handed back the phone and results and spoke quietly; "I've deleted that video. Accept my congratulations on your pregnancy. I'll fund an abortion if you like if not, have the baby at your own risk." She stood up and moved closer to the incredibly shocked Angela, pointing her gun on her forehead. "If I ever see you 100 miles close to my husband, you'll vanish. Get out now before I change my mind!" She immediately ran out of the house while James stared on in great shock. Ashley gulped down her remaining juice and walked coldly towards the room, not even sparing him a second glance.
Back in time
CHAPTER ONE
The feeling was claustrophobic in fact, extremely disappointing. How could this be? Yemi felt really Isolated as she sank into the couch. She stood up again feeling extremely restless and began pacing furiously. After a while, her phone rang and she deliberated on ignoring it. She stared at the phone briefly before eventually deciding to pick it up.
"Good day ma'am, she's awake and requests to see you." "Ok, thanks a lot." Immediately, she hurried to the hospital and was extremely saddened at the state she found her aunt. This was a woman that was extremely healthy right before she married Chibuike barely a year and some months ago. His mother started complaints about God knows what and everyone ignored her. She got pregnant, was delivered of a beautiful baby girl they named Chidera just yesterday. Suddenly, after allegedly screaming in her sleep yester - night, her aunt's been bedeviled with this strange ailment. She glanced at her watch. It was already 6pm, exactly twelve hours since her aunt's ailment has begun and she wasn't getting any better. Just then, Aunt Dunni opened her eyes and held Yemi's hands. "Yemi, ejo help me take..." She suddenly began having spasms of whooping cough. Each time she coughed, she spat out blood. Immediately, Yemi ran out of the room screaming for the doctor or nurses on duty. As soon as they heard her screams, they hurriedly went to her aunt's bed. By then she had stopped coughing and lay comatose. After a few seemingly endless checks, she was pronounced dead. It saddened her so bad infact, Yemi couldn't explain just how she felt at the moment. The pain was so intense that all she could do was weep silently, holding her chest as she stared at her aunt's lifeless body. Not long after, Chibuike (Aunt Dunni's husband) and Aunt Yemi (Dunni's elder sister), rushed in. New set of outcries began. Such a waste! Oh! What a shame!
*. *. *. *. *. *
Yemi watched in shock as her mother (Dunni's eldest sister), announced that Chibuike had found another woman wanted to marry. He was already set to settle down barely a year and two months after her aunt's mysterious, albeit painful death. The nerve of the bastard!! Ho could he do this to Aunt Dunni? Her aunt deserved to be mourned for up to five years, she was such a wonderful woman. What happened to the forever he promised her? No matter what, she deserved to be mourned a lot longer. Her husband should be too aggrieved to remarry, yet. At least he had said he loved her so much... MEN!!
Days later, she got news that Chibuike had been convinced to wait for ten more months before remarrying. At exactly two years after Aunt Dunni's death, her 'Dearest' husband remarried, doing a greater society wedding than the one he did with his 'first and only love.' Yemi couldn't help the bitterness she felt, even months after Chibuike's wedding. His mom was suspected for the death of Aunt Dunni though they were all just suspicions. The woman was allegedly very diabolical though. For three days straight, Yemi kept wishing she could go back in time to fix some things. As far as she was concerned, Aunt Dunni made the biggest mistake of her life by getting married to Chibuike.
Two weeks later, Yemi fell asleep one afternoon after doing some hectic chores. Not long after, she had the strangest dream ever. She was given a pill by a woman in a brown overall gown, whose face wasn't visible. She took it, staring at the woman in curiosity. "We have your great desire to help your aunt correct her mistakes. That pill would enable you to do that. Once you take the pill now, you'd go back in time, three hours everyday. Note that three hours in the present equals two days in the past. You have just one month in the present to change history, including yours." The woman vanished and Yemi put the pill in her mouth and chewed. It tasted just like honey. As soon as she finished chewing and swallowing, she woke up panting seriously.
Days later, Yemi pranced round her room, still trying to figure out her strange dream. Her eyes caught Drew's picture and she smiled sadly, wishing things hadn't ended so abruptly. She just couldn't shake off the feeling that Andrew would have been the best man for her. She looked away from the picture and glanced at her watch. She had five hours before having to prepare for her presentation. She yawned sleepily deciding to sleep for about three hours. After setting her alarm to ensure she didn't over sleep, she crawled into bed still wondering what her strange dream had meant. She shook her head. How the hell does someone go back in time?
*. *. *. *. *. *
Yemi awoke with a start and couldn't help yawning tiredly. Why the hell didn't her alarm ring? She was sure she hardly missed... Wait; she stared at her bed. Why was it positioned This way? She was damn sure she changed its position about four years back... OMG! Isn't this the bedsheet she'd burnt long ago? How come it was still looking new and she was lying on it? She jumped out of bed. What the hell was going on here?! She looked around, shocked. How come all the thing she's changed, thrown away or burnt were still in her room? She was jolted out of her reverie by the sound of her phone ringing. How come the song playing was Alon's no more you rather than... Wait; wasn't this her old phone? Where the hell was her current tablet? She checked the caller ID... Drew. What the hell?! She picked up the phone. "Hello?" "Hey baby how are you?" "I'm fine." "Been tryna call you for hours now... Don't forget our date at daffodils today o...!" Shit! She remembered this date like it was just happening. The last romantic date she had with Drew before... She sighed, hung up and sat on the ground in obvious confusion. Had she really gone back in time? She checked the date on her phone. 5th March 2014; the day she lost Drew... SHIT!!!
Jumping to her feet, she hurried to her phone. She had to save Drew, she couldn't let him die again. Losing him has been too painful now, she had a chance to fix it. She wouldn't forgive herself if she let the past repeat itself. "Hello? Drew are you at home?" "Yes but, I was preparing to come over and see you. Are you okay? The sounded when I called earlier..." "I'm fine but, I was emmm wondering if we could hangout at your place; as in I mean I don't feel like going out." He silent for a while before replying. "Now I'm convinced that something is terribly wrong. You've always wanted to go to Daffodils and was so excited I asked... How can you suddenly change your mind." "It's not like that... I promise I'll explain it all when I come okay? He was too silent and she almost thought he needed more convincing, knowing how mule headed he could be. She groaned inwardly. The last thing she intended doing was telling him he'd die of they went to daffodils. Wouldn't that make her seem like some sort of crazy freak or psycho? "If you insist, fine. Come over." She nearly screamed in Joy. THANK GOD! "Thanks boo, I'll make it worth your while I promise " She hung up feeling very victorious.
As she prepared to see Drew, Aunt Dunni came visiting. "Yemisi!" She hurried out to answer her. Some features of Aunt Dunni's visit were the goodies she always brought, disregarding the fact that her niece was a full graduate and no longer a ten year old girl. Another feature, was that she never settled down without shouting Yemi's name... As she took her aunt's things inside, her phone rang and she picked it up. From the tone of Aunt Dunni's voice, she could tell that it was Chibuike. Action time... At least they weren't getting married yet. She needed to destroy their relationship. She had no idea how she'd pull that off but, she knew she had to do it and do it fast.
Seeing Drew again was such an amazing pleasure. She hugged and kissed him like her life depended on it. Only God knew how long she had wished for only one day with him. He smiled at her, she holding unto her, even after she tried letting him go. "I was so scared that I pissed you off or did something wrong. It's obvious I didn't. Thank God." She smiled and he carried to a couch and sat first before placing her on his laps. So why did you change your mind?" She sighed inwardly, thinking of how best to answer the question. She cleared her throat. "Emmm... The thing is, I kinda had a dream about us being involved in an accident on our way back from Daffodils. I lost you though I survived..." He burst into a hearty laughter. "When did you become Yemi the dreamer? I thought you don't believe in dreams?" She rolled her eyes at the way he pronounced 'dream' like it was the most preposterous idea ever... "I took a nap so..." He laughed so hard that she nearly fell of his laps. He repositioned her and paused. "Nap...? Are for real...?" "What's so funny about what I said? Abeg let's forget this matter. Did you cook?" "Hell no! I don't have that strength jare!" She smiled and made to get up and go to the Kitchen. He held her back. I ordered for something and don't ask what it is, it's a surprise. It's going to take some time arriving though, so we'd have time for this." Before she could wonder what 'this' was, he lowered his lips to hers.
Hours later, she walked into the kitchen, feeling estatic and sated. She really missed feeling this way. She began doing the dishes. Not long after, she he walked into the kitchen. "Baby something just came up now and I need to hurry out. I promise I'd be back before you know it." She nodded. He kissed her thoroughly and then hurried out. Ten minutes later, she glanced at the clock. 8pm... Her eyes widened. The exact time she lost Drew four years back. SHIT!!
Friday 5 April 2019
I AM NOT SORRY
Beryl jumped happily out of the taxi. She just couldn't wait to see Nonso. She knew he'd be so excited to hear the news she came to give him. She grinned. The look on her baby's face when he heard what she had to say, was something she could just imagine. She waltzed to the door and was about inserting her key when she heard a lady's voice. She paused and listened attentively. "Nonso please dont do this to me I'm begging you. I came here because Eric sent me to deliver your pizza..." "Shut up! Pull off those damn clothes now before I tear them off you...!" Beryl was shocked and she bent and peeped through the key hole. Fortunately, she was able to see what was happening inside. The lady kept begging and Nonso pulled her and tore her dress. She couldn't help screaming. Nonso paused searching for the source of the noise. Beryl ran out of the compound pissed, abashed and extremely hurt, disappointed and angry. As she highlighted a cab home, she regretted not saving the lady and she shrugged. What if he harmed her too? She never knew he was such a violent man plus a rapist. Wow! He really was a good actor. How did he conceal this side of him for two years? To think she was planning to marry him. There really was a God and he just saved her ass. DAMN!
Immediately she got home, she made arrangements for a new place to live and blocked him from calling, texting or reaching her on all her social media platforms. Two weeks after, her friend Dolly called. "Hey babe whatsup? Where are you? Your man is about to kill himself o! If you dont come out, his death would be on your..." Abeg Dorathy if thats why you called me forget it. I'm changing my sim right now so nobody can disturb my peace." She hung up before her friend could reply. Few weeks later, she heard that a lady had committed suicide. After taking a closer look at the dead lady's picture, she realised that it was the lady Nonso raped. How could he be so mean? She felt pangs of guilt and regret for not trying to stop Nonso despite her shock and fear. For some reason, what if it could have been her? Immediately, she resolved to protect herself from being rapped. The next day, she went to the market and bought a dozen of daggers. She resolved to always move around with at least one because, it was better to be safe than sorry.

The next few years was characterized by her avoidance of men and also her pursuit for the enhancement of her musical career. One day, she went out to record her song in a studio. She paused at the lobby of the building to buy the ticket that would permit her to be ushered in and assigned a producer. The ticket had already been cut, signed and stamped when she realised her purse was missing. She was so embarrassed and returned the ticket, explaining how she didnt know she left her purse at home. "I'm sorry ma'am but we cant take this ticket back. Your name have already been inscribed on it and..." "Haven't you been hearing a word I've been saying?" "You have to pay or..." "What's the meaning of this for God's sake? Cant you resell it to another customer?" "Madam you're disturbing my job can you pay me fast so I can attend to another customer?" "I just told you I cant..." "How much is her ticket?" Both the guy behind the desk and Beryl turned to stare at the stranger in suprise. "I said how much is it?" "#7500." Immediately he brought out a pile of cash, counted #8,000 and handed it to him. "Keep the change." He walked off and Beryl stared at his departing figure still taken aback by his niceness. Why did he help her since he wasn't waiting in line himself? Do such men still exist? She just couldnt believe it... "Madam could please leave the line so I could attend to others?" "Oh sorry..." She moved away from the line. "Please go in through that door with your stamped ticket..." She ignored his directions and hurried out to see she could at least get a last glimpse of him. She was surprised to find him standing beside a very nice Jeep, pressing his phone and periodically glancing at his watch. Seemed like he was waiting for someone. She cleared her throat and that got his attention. "Ummm... Thanks for bailing me out." He smiled briskly "You're welcome." His voice was quite sharp and politely dismissive. She didn't give up on trying to make a conversation though. "Are you waiting for someone?" "Yeah, my younger sister." "She's into music?" He nodded and politely excused himself. She watched him as he walked farther away to supposedly "take a call." For a while she remembered how she'd shooed men away for the past two years. It was funny how she now saw herself getting interested in one that's practically shooing her away.
***********************************
She arrived at her extremely boring apartment, still remembering the stranger that paid her bills and shooed her away. That was actually a first and, she found herself craving to see him again. She had almost finished undressing before she realised that her phone was missing. She threw back her clothes on and hurried to the studio to check for the phone. She was just so convinced that she left it there.
On getting to the studio, she hurried over to the counter. "Please I think I left my phone here. Could you help me find it?" "I'm sorry ma'am I haven't seen any phone..." "Oh my God! It can't be. Please just check..." "Madam there's no..."
"Here you are... Is this yours?" She was agape. The shock and delight she felt right now wasn't just because her most priced phone was dangling from his hands but she was seeing the hot kind stranger again. "Yee... yeeesss." She stammered as she recovered from her shock. He smiled. Damn! This guy was freaking hot... "You left your phone on top of my car." He handed over the phone to her. She muttered a thank you as she collected her phone. Two good deeds in a day, that was a great sign. He walked out of the building and she followed him immediately this time. "Can I at least know your name? You've done enough to pique my curiousity."
"Edmond, but everyone calls me Eddie." "Eddie. Hmmm... nice name. I'm Beryl by the way." She said stretching her hands for a handshake. He smiled again even nicer this time and took her hands. Instead of shaking it, he took it to his lips. She felt that flutter in her stomach and couldnt help smiling. "That's an even nicer name. Sounds like you didn't grow up in Nigeria." "Of course I did. Original Naija hot blood like me." He released her hand as they both laughed. "I thought you said you were waiting for your sister?" "Yeah I was but, she ditched me to accompany her friend. Where are you headed?" "Third avenue." "I'm heading towards 2nd avenue. Can I drop you off?" "Of course. Thanks a lot." He grinned, politely shrugging off her gratitude.

NAPPILY MARRIED (EPISODE 1)
Victor was so excited. He still couldn't believe today that everything was really going to be perfect. He was marrying the love of his life and he just couldn't wait. Time seemed to crawl by lamely. The most annoying thing right now however, was that his tie had refused to cave in and Lola wasn't here to bail him out. He sighed wistfully, remembering how he met her. How else could he thank fate for delivering such Jewel onto his lap? He stared at the mirror, still absently fumbling with his tie, but mostly looking forward to talking to his bride just to know how she was doing. Hope she was good? He could just imagine how beautiful she'd look on her wedding gown, walking towards him like an Angel. He smiled, of course she was his Angel and... "Guy what's up now? You're meant to be the one waiting for Lola..." He frowned as Richard walked in, yelling at him as usual. He just wasn't feeling witty enough to concort a usual biting response. "If you don't hasten up and stop admiring yourself in the mirror like some vain bitch, she'd end up waiting for you and you know what that means." "God forbid! Riccardo, you know if it's before I for don..." "Oga dey do fast fast joor." "Leave me jare, I want to look very hot for her today..." Richard rolled his eyes. "Abeg hurry up you're late for church. You think say you be woman?" He smiled, finally gave up fumbling with his tie and turned to his friend. "See, forget that one it's not the issue now. I just heard the pastor wants to wed us with another couple at the same time..." Richard snatched the tie from his friend and helped him tidy it up. "If he likes he should wed you guys with hundred other couples. Wetin matter be say Las Las una go still marry." He finished the tie and tapped him on his shoulder. "All set man, let's get your sorry ass married." Victor gave him a feigned hurt look, and then they both laughed heartily...

Valerie stared at her reflection in the mirror and felt highly elated. Wow! She still found it hard to believe that she was going to be a married woman after today. How time flies. Well, she shrugged adjusting her gown. She loved Jerry and she didn't mind giving him forever.
She left the room quietly and quickly to make sure everything was in order before heading to the church with her entourage. She smiled as she remembered two days ago when Jerry tried sneaking in to see her. Unfortunately, he was caught by her mum. Though he tried convincing mummy that he had something very important to tell her, he was still turned away because she didn't believe him. She felt it was just a ploy of his to cuddle a little with his bride before the wedding. She still smiled absently, so much that she almost lost her footing. Was it normal to miss and have this great urge to speak to someone she just spoke to yesterday evening? Oh well, she shrugged again, that possibly was exactly what love entailed.
The church was filled to the brim with people that had gathered to witness the joining in matrimony of the couples. Surprisingly, one very handsome groom had been standing for hours, waiting for his bride. Ladies had been ogling him and in fact, cursing the foolish lady that kept him waiting. A lady even suggested replacing his bride, while everyone laughed it off. At another angle, a very beautiful, curvy and hot looking bride had been waiting for her groom. Guys couldn't just imagine the jerk that would make such Jewel wait for him at the altar. The crowd had began to mumble, grumble, and gossip after waiting for thirty extra minutes. There was still no sign of the missing people and everyone was growing really impatient. Not long after, the congregation began to disperse when a middle aged lady muttered to Valerie's hearing; "I'm not surprised. In fact, I would have been amazed if she had gotten married." Out of anger, Valerie walked up to the stranger who was obviously in the same dilemma as she and whispered. "Replace my groom please." Immediately she said it she regretted it majorly because of the look he had on his face. She was about taking it back when he whispered back; "Replace my bride." Surprised, she stared at him. Just as she was about forming a response, he walked up to the officiating priest and whispered something in his ear, probably asking to be wedded to her. The priest was amazed and whispered something furiously to him. She looked around. The church had become quite scanty and disappointingly, most of her friends and family, even her mom were not in the church. She smiled satisfactorily however, as she saw the woman that made the derogatory statement still seated. The priest refused at first, saying the decision was taken in a haze of anger and dissapointment. After much Ado, he finally gave in especially when they both insisted.
After their church ceremony (which only a few people stayed to witness), they both cancelled their reception and decided to take a break, heading to their separate supposed honeymoon venues. Victor took a flight to Paris while Valerie headed to Dubai.

Linda couldn't believe her ears; "This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life. You did not just wed him in church, you also wedded him in court. A man you know nothing about. Are you crazy? Do you even know his name, or why his bride ran out on him in the first place...?" " Stop it! His name is Victor and, have you stopped to consider the fact that he might have actually been dumped just the way i was? For the records she is not his wife, I am". "Really...?! If you guys are really a couple why aren't you together? Why is he in Paris and you in Dubai? Abi in marriage law couples are not meant to spend the night together? Abi una no get honey moon?" "It's really non of your business because..."
"Abeg stop all this jirating, we both know U'll regret it if you don't already. Better do something before it's too late, I'm just telling you as a concerned friend." Valerie ended the call feeling so frustrated. Why the hell would Jerry do this to her? But they loved each other so much, what went wrong? How the hell did she not see this coming? Sincerely Linda said the truth. She regretted marrying Victor and she really never wanted to see him again. Hell, she never wanted to have anything to do with any other man. Love was really bloody shitty.
RE - TAMED (EPISODE 1)
"Bloody hell!!! What did you say?" Justin coudn't believe his ears, he just stared in shock at the investigator. The man was about to repeat himself but ended up being waved off. "I heard you the first time Goddammit!" He handed him a cheque. "Thanks for the information. You can leave now." He nodded and left while Justin paced furiously. "How can this be? How the hell could Aunt Vicky bloody do this?" After pacing furiously a little more, he picked up his car keys and stormed out.
Karen looked at herself in the mirror and grinned. She most certainly liked what she saw. Such an amazing look would most definitely boost her chances and confidence. She checked the time and saw that she had just 20 minutes to meet up. Immediately, she called uber and put finishing touches to her make up.
After waiting for about five minutes she got tired of waiting for the uber and was fortunate enough to find another taxi. Three hours later, she was being congratulated for a great presentation by a board of directors. She grinned from ear to ear even as more people congratulated her. She went into her office to tidy somethings before leaving. Just then, her friend Amaka walked in.
"Babe I heard your presentation was the bomb! I'm so happy for you." "Thanks dearie..." "Still in the spirit of celebration, I want you to invite you for my brother's house warming party which is taking place tomorrow." Karen began to shake her head indicating her lack of interest in attending the party. Amaka immediately silenced her stating that she must go. Karen smiled. She knew her friend still intended setting her up especially with Jim. She just nodded in surrender and watched her friend walk out happily. Arguing with her would be a lost cause. Suddenly she stopped at the door. "Don't you dare dress boyish. In fact, i'll come to your house and dress you myself. I no fit shout." She walked out before Karen could protest.
The boredom was excruciating as Karen watched couples smooching and dancing. People smoking weed, shisha and the likes. She gulped down the remaining of her wine and decided to single handedly take a tour around the house. She got to the kitchen and heard a strange noise. She traced them noise and realised it was actually a lady begging and struggling not to be rapped. She found them finally at the back of the men's toilet and saw the man slap the lady, attempting to tear her clothes off her. She immediately removed her shoes and pounced on the man. She pushed him to the ground and began beating the hell outta him while the other lady looked on in shock.
Justin hurried into the male toilet to relieve himself. Just as he was about leaving, he heard a lady angrily mumbling something alongside grunts and minor screams. He came out of the toilet and traced the sounds to the back of the toilet. He was shocked to see a very pretty lady pressing a man against the wall and squeezing his manhood hard. He winced, automatically feeling for the man. She gave the man a very hard punch on the face and Justin had to intervene. He held the lady's hand in mid air as she prepared to deliver another punch.
"What the hell is going on here?" She glared at him and tried shrugging off his hands but couldnt. Justin kept looking at the guy and both ladies.
"I asked a question." The other lady was about to explain when the man snapped spitting out blood; "These stupid ladies just assaulted..." Immediately, she bit Justin making him to release her and pounced on the man again. Dubem winced at the administered bite and went to stop Karen immediately, holding her a bit tightly. "Let go of me," she snapped. "No. I'll call in the cops if someone doesnt explain what is going on here." The assaulted lady cleared her throat and signalled at her rumpled dress and bruised face, while attempting to offer an explanation. "He tried to rape me and then she came to my aid..." Justin turned to look at the pretty saviour, trully amazed. He studied the assaulted lady's bruises and then turned to stare at miss tough, his eyebrows in surprise. "Hmmmm... So you actually..." "Yes," She snapped, already pissed and impatient. Why do men always have to give her that look. Like it was strange or a biggie to put a bastard in his place. He released her and she straightened turning to the man. "You think having a penis gives you the right to assault, harass and humiliate any lady the way you want. You're very lucky he came here. I really would have castrated you today. Bloody fool." She hissed and walked out while the other lady explained all that happened to Justin. He called the cops and handed over the rapist to them before returning to the party.
Karen noticed that the meddler was staring at her. Gosh! She hated his freaking guts. She still wondered why she hadn't able to shrug off his stupid hold. She knew the only person that could make her feel that weak was Amaka's elder brother Tony. She turned and caught his eyes. He quickly removed his when she held his gaze. She contemplated going over and telling him just how she felt about being ogled then she remembered the promise she made to Amaka about behaving herself and she decided to ignore him. Later on, something fell off, she bent to pick it up and noticed him still checking her out. She so hated that. Choosing not to ignore him anymore, she walked up to him with the fierciest look on her face.
"Hey, I noticed you staring at me. Is there any problem?" The guy obviously looked pretty shocked. She smiled inwardly. "Did you hear what I asked you?" "Yeeeesss... Emmm there's no problem." "Good. Don't you fucking stare at me again." She walked off and Justin was perplexed. She really was one hell of a lady.
Justin walked up to his friend and nudged him. "Guy, who's that babe?" Tony turned; "The girl on the pink dress? I don't know, she should be..." "No, the one on the maroon gown. Don't stare like that..." "Karen?! Guy don't even go there. She's Amaka's best friend and an unrepentant man beater." "Hmmmm..." "Boy, I mean it don't even think about it. My sister and I have done everything in..." Just then, a pretty lady came and dragged Tony away. He poured himself a drink as he surreptitiously studied the Lady. Karen huh? Nice name... Just then, Amaka walked up to her and after discussing briefly, she dragged her up. Karen was dragged to a tall guy... Wait, wasn't that Jim? Amaka smiled cunningly and walked off still sipping her juice. From the huge smile on Jim's face, he could tell he wasn't the only one that had a thing for Miss tough. She said something giving him a fake smile and removed the hand he placed on her shoulder. Good, she doesn't like him. She attempted walking out and Jim dragged her back holding her cheeks and saying something with a fierce look on his face. He sighed, so typical of Jim to manhandle a lady at the slightest provocation. Just as Justin was about to swing in to her rescue, she twisted Jim's hands and kicked him hard on him stomach. In a swift second, she had him face up on the ground, growling in pain. She placed her heeled foot on his chest and poured her drink on his face. Wow... She cart walked back to her seat. At that time, all eyes were on her as she grabbed a new drink. Looking sideways, he saw Tony walking angrily towards her as she stood up and went outside with her drink. He immediately dragged Tony back. "Guy, what do you think..." "I need to give her a piece of my mind. She's really getting out of hands..." "She wasn't wrong but, let me handle her." Tony looked at him, incredulous and laughed heartily. "Right now, I'm the only guy on earth she listens to. She doesn't..." "Forget it. You're about to meet a man she would listen to more than you." Immediately, he walked off before Tony could stop him. Tony couldn't help the pity he felt for his friend. Justin was just about to find out first hand (and most likely, unpleasantly) that Karen listens to no one...
